Kindergarten Transition Activities 2019-2020

Mount Pleasant Area School District holds several opportunities to help you and your child make a successful transition into kindergarten.  Please refer to the chart below to locate the date of each activity.

Children entering kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year must be (5) years old by September 1, 2020 in order to qualify for enrollment.  Registration will take place the week of February 3-7, 2020.  If you are unable to attend on the dates scheduled you can call the school office and schedule a date to come and register your child.  It is not necessary to bring your child to registration.  Please bring your child’s birth certificate, immunizations, and 2 proofs of residency.

We strongly urge you to register your child in February, since it aids the school district with our enrollment and staffing projections.

Throughout the school year, Mount Pleasant Area School District will host several Kindergarten Transition Activities in all the elementary schools.  Parents and pre-kindergarten students will rotate through a variety of kindergarten activities and the children will experience what is like to be a kindergarten student.    If you have any specific questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Kindergarten Transition Activities

Donegal and Norvelt Elementary have a fall, winter, and spring activity which the school invites pre-kindergarten students into the building.  (See chart for specific dates)

The workshop is held at Donegal and Norvelt Elementary on an evening in the spring.

Parents attend presentations during the evening workshop which include:

Kindergarten Screening

Kindergarten screening is held at each elementary building on May 1, 2020. Students will be given a variety of assessments.  The

students have their vision and hearing screened.  In addition, pre-school students go through the lunch line, take a tray, a drink, and a snack to experience this prior to the first day of school. Students and parents are offered a bus ride to help students learn the rules of the school bus, board the bus properly, and ride the bus before the first day of school.  While pre-kindergarten students go through the screenings, parents listen to a kindergarten orientation with the kindergarten teachers.  The parents receive a folder of information which includes the following:
