About Teacher

Mr. Tom Murphy

My name is Tom Murphy and I am the Instrumental Instructor for the Elementary Bands.  I began my musical journey by banging on pots and pans at a very young age.  I was born and raised in Latrobe and now reside in North Huntingdon with my lovely wife Mandy, our son Keegan and daughter Harley.  I have a B.S. in Fine Arts with a concentration in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  I am in my 13th year of teaching.  I work with Elementary Instrumental students in grades 4, 5, and 6 at Donegal, Norvelt, and Ramsay.  I really enjoy teaching young and old alike.

I have been actively involved with numerous marching bands in Western Pennsylvania.  I helped to created the Greater Latrobe Percussion Ensemble and have also choreographed dances for numerous school districts.  I have toured the United States extensively with Drum and Bugle Corps and with entertainment bands.  I also perform with various community groups.

As a percussionist, I give master classes and clinics throughout the music community, as well as volunteering my time and talents for various events.  I recorded an album at Audible Images in Pittsburgh with “The J. McCall Band” which is available on ITunes.  When I am not involved with music I love to spend time with my family, swimming, camping, fishing, playing and watching sports, as well as seeing live music.

Music is a gift that will last a lifetime!!  I look forward to getting to know you and your child in more depth as we begin a new school year.  Thank you for welcoming me into your school community.  Please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone message if you have any questions or comments.  I am excited to continue with our tradition of excellence and pride here in Mount Pleasant.  Rock On!!

Musically yours,

Mr. Tom Murphy
