School Profile

Norvelt Elementary School is located in the small community of Norvelt, about five miles from Mount Pleasant. Both the school and community were named for Eleanor Roosevelt because of her extensive work in this area during the depression years. Built in 1936, Norvelt School was unique in structure because of its resemblance to Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

The building originally housed students in grades one through eight. Today it houses approximately 500 students in kindergarten through third grade.
